All About Us
The Fire Ant Man has been helping Texans take back their properties from fire ants since 1997. The business was founded by James “JB” Tobias, who made it his mission to find a better solution after experiencing firsthand just how big of a problem fire ants had become in Texas. After years of studying their habits and becoming professionally licensed, JB built a trusted local business specializing in fire ant control for homes, ranches, farms, schools, churches, businesses, and more.
More than 25 years later, JB decided it was finally time to retire—but he wasn't willing to hand his life's work over to just anyone.
Then he met Jill.
Their conversation started with a simple question: “Do you want to buy a business?”
And, as they say, the rest is history.
In June 2024, Jill Lassiter, Tyler Lassiter, and Carlie Johnson became the new owners and operators of The Fire Ant Man. JB and his wife, Leann, personally trained us from the ground up, sharing decades of knowledge about fire ants, treatment techniques, equipment, customers, and the business they had worked so hard to build. Today, we're proud to carry that knowledge forward while continuing the same specialized services The Fire Ant Man has been known for since 1997.
For us, this business feels especially close to home. Jill and Carlie grew up here in the Texas Hill Country, where our grandparents, Billy and Helen Teague, established Crabapple Angus Ranch, which remains our family's working cattle ranch today. We know what it means to care about your land because we care deeply about ours. Getting to spend our days outdoors, walking and driving beautiful Hill Country properties and helping other people enjoy their land without constantly worrying about fire ants is pretty close to a dream job for us.
And fire ants aren't just another pest on a long list of things we treat—they're our one and only focus, our specialty.
We focus on the two fire ants most commonly encountered in our area: Red Imported Fire Ants and Southern Fire Ants. Rather than chasing individual mounds around your property, our treatments are designed to address the property as a whole, giving us a much more efficient approach to controlling the colony population. With specialized equipment capable of treating large acreage and a team that can tackle bigger jobs quickly and efficiently, we're equipped for everything from backyards and businesses to ranches, schools, parks, RV parks, and other large and small properties.
